Owner - Lead Lighting Designer/Consultant
gagejh@vilcreations.com

Visions in Light was started in 1990 by its owner James H. Gage. Mr. Gage has created many fantastic environments with light over these years primarily based in the Cincinnati area. “Our specialty is theatrical art forms, theatre consultations, museum environs, and places of worship.”

Mr. Gage is primarily trained in theatrical presentation earning his MFA in Design, from the Yale School of Drama in 1980. His professional career started in 1972 with the Lighting Design for “Dames at Sea” and Bernadette Peters in Milwaukee Wisconsin. With over 37 years of professional design work and 19 years of architectural design applications the list of award winning applications is impressive. Mr. Gage believes strongly in the project no-matter what the scale and or cost. Mr. Gage has new design installations that have cost the owners no more than a few thousand; like Baba Budan’s Coffee shop in Clifton to $350,000.00 for performance lighting in a new Roman Catholic Church in Warren County, Ohio. Projects totaling well over 20 million are not uncommon. Recent designs in Albany Georgia for Phoebe Putney Hospital and Hunt International headquarters in Dallas Texas use extensive LED fixture applications. The new Salvation Army Cathedral in Dayton Ohio will open in March of 2010.

As a University of Cincinnati Professor at CCM Mr. Gage was instrumental in development of preliminary designs and scope parameters on both Corbett Theatre renovations and three new theatre facilities at the University of Cincinnati’s Conservatory from 1994-2000. Mr. Gage’s theatre repertory designs can be seen nightly at the Aronoff Center For The Arts in Cincinnati and The Verne-Riffe Center for The Arts in Columbus, as he is responsible for development of the theatre lighting plots in all six theatres. Mr. Gage is a 27 year member of United Scenic Artist of America-USAA-829.
